The fund was established as
a working memorial to the precepts and philosophy of Bud Leabo. He
firmly believed in the value of music education and the impact of
that education on all aspects of our barbershop hobby.
His belief was that more fun and satisfaction are possible through
education by means of a heightened barbershop experience.
The Bud Leabo Memorial Fund is an endowment fund administered by trustees
elected by the Evergreen District House of Delegates. The trustees
meet twice a year to review the fund's progress, recommend ways to
enhance it, and make recommendations as to the disbursment of funds.
Because it is an endowment fund, disbursments are made from the interest
earned on the fund.
Twice a year reports as to the status of the fund and disbursments
are made to the Evergreen District Board of Directors and the House
of Delegates.
The Future
Originally, the purpose of the fund was to provide scholarships to
district members so they could attend District or Society-sponsored
music education schools.
Recently, the trustees have expanded the scope of the fund to include
coaching at the chapter level, purchase of books and instructional
materials, underwriting the cost of schools or guest instructors,
and partial funding for Candidate Judges attending category schools.
Long range goals include totally funding the Music Education Program
in the Evergreen District and special projects in the Contest & Judging
Program. |
